22/05/2020: Schools and Nursery are closed until further notice.

Following the government announcement on Sunday we will continue to operate our schools virtually with onsite provision for children of key workers and for vulnerable children and online resources for distance learning at home. Please check out the information about seesaw in our HOME LEARNING tab and support your children to use this simple app to share their learning with their teacher.

In school planning is continuing for how pupils could make a safe return to school. Following the announcement by the Prime Minister, planning is underway across Northumberland to consider the safe re-opening of schools, beginning with children in the Reception classes, Year 1 and Year 6.

Further clarity is awaited from the Government; however, it is expected that schools could start to re-open after half term, subject to satisfying the five tests as set out by Government. Please read the letter about reopening schools in the Important Information & letters to Parents section in the HOME LEARNING tab.

Keeping pupils and staff safe in schools remains our top priority. We are reviewing the information provided by the Government and will be working to determine what this might look like in our schools. We await further guidance and information as to how this will be progressed.

We will continue to be open for those children of Key Workers and/or children who are defined as ‘Vulnerable’ who cannot remain at home. We have operated this provision throughout the lockdown and we very much want to continue to help at this difficult time and embrace our responsibility for supporting these children. Our skeleton school for children of key workers and vulnerable children has been operating well and we have a good picture of current needs. We are operating following the government and health guidance to only have children and staff in school if no other provision is possible. This is to reduce interactions and slow the spread of the virus. If you are a key worker or have vulnerable children and you are unable to organise suitable and safe care for your child/children please get in contact with us to discuss what we can do. If your circumstances change and you think you may need help over the coming days and weeks please get in touch. Call us on 01668 281470 (if we are unable to answer please leave us a message on the answer machine which will be checked daily). You can also contact us via email at glendalemiddle@woolerandglendale.co.uk – this email will also be checked daily.

All resources for maintaining learning at home can be found in our HOME LEARNING tab - the learning for each week will be opened up on a Friday afternoon ready for the week ahead. Teachers will continue to add materials and links to supplement the weekly learning plans over the coming days along with links to the excellent resources from The BBC and Oak Academy. Please see guidance information in the Important Information and Letters to Parents section – we do not expect all of this work to be done!

Teachers will continue to monitor children accessing School360 and TTrockstars and are able to send encouragement via the built-in communication within these platforms and using seesaw. Please encourage/help your to children access these resources, thank you. If you need another book for your child to record their home learning please use your daily exercise to pop down to school – we will continue to put new books outside school between 9am and 2.00pm for you to collect. Please observe social distancing rules if you do come to school.

Further information and guidance for families with regards to keeping children safe online and supporting children’s mental health is being uploaded daily – they are in the Important Information & Letters to Parents section of the HOME LEARNING tab.

Keep safe

Mr Deane-Hall
