York - Day 2

2nd July 2019

York - day 2

Everyone up bright and early at 7am this morning (only a couple of rooms needed waking up!). Lovely breakfast of cereal, sausage, egg and toast (Zach liked the toast so much he had 13 slices!!!).

After breakfast, we packed our day bags, collected our lunch and visited Miss Johnston's bank to withdraw some spending money for the day. York was quiet as we walked through the city past the Minster, the city centre and the Jorvik Centre and down to The Castle Museum. We split into two groups and enjoyed the morning touring the exhibits. This year there were a number of museum volunteers throughout the museum for us to interact with. We were able to handle artefacts as well as learn about York's fascinating past. After enjoying the morning at the museum we walked back through the bustling city to the Minster gardens to enjoy our lunch together. At 2pm we entered the Minster for our guided tour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and gave us a great tour of this wonderful building. We spent a few minutes in the gift shop (trying to avoid buying ‘tat’) and when we came out we enjoyed some lovely singing from a street performer.

Back to the hotel for our evening meal - everyone looking very dapper as we sat down to sausages and mash with vegetables and warm chocolate brownie with ice cream for desert. A quick change followed before we set off to the cinema to watch Spiderman: Far from Home. The Everyman cinema in York has been beautifully refurbished with sofas to sit on and and an excellent sound system. The film was enjoyed by all and we came out as the sun was setting over the city for a walk back to the hotel and off to bed for a well-earned sleep. Busy day again tomorrow at the National Rail Museum.
